The STAR program was created to provide an educational opportunity for intermediate and advanced students who are interested in learning about the art of dance instruction. The program offers both practical training in the classroom as well as training on the theory behind dance instruction.
Pre-requisites:
The first step toward becoming a STAR is to take the STAR Training Course, which is offered every other spring. This course will provide students with a deeper understanding of what the STAR program is all about. They will receive training in technical vocabulary, classroom management, instructional techniques and leadership skills. Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible to be selected as a STAR.

April 2026
Students selected for the STAR program will be assigned a training class for the dance year. This exposes them to the practical aspects of dance instruction and allows them to put their theoretical training into action as they assist the instructor with classroom activities. To maintain the integrity of this training experience training classes are limited. Therefore, DIVA classroom placement is entirely dependent upon available training classes.
